Kyoto - Nijo-jo castle, Golden pavillion (Kinkaku-ji), Gion

For only ¥540 (2012), Kyoto station is only about 15 minutes bullet train ride from Shin-Osaka station. It is a tranquil a must see destination for first time and returning tourists.

The impressive Kyoto JR Station - it's more modern than Tokyo Station
Kyoto Tower that can be seen once you exit Kyoto Station

Nijo- jo
Not much of information as there are enough already. Entrance fee is ¥600 and I also visited it because of the nightingale floor (i was curious)
Gate to Nijo-Jo

The nightingale floor - no photos allowed and the building is protected from the sun so it's pretty dark inside. It's the main resting and meeting place

The area is surprisingly open

One of the gardens
Golden Pavillion Temple (Kinkaku-ji)
It took about 40 minutes (feels like ages on the bus - btw did you know that to enter most of buses in Japan, you need to enter from the back door, and when you get off, you either pay or swipe your card) to get to the place, you cannot see the golden pavillion from the street. Entrance fee is ¥400 (I got ¥100 discount as the cashier thought I am a student - I swear I didn't say anything). Not the I try to discourage people, but kinkaku-ji means only the golden pavillion, there is nothing else worth seeing, so if you think just internet photo of the golden pavillion is enough, not really worth the long journey, to be honest I was quite disappointed at how small the place is and how deceitful internet photo is)

Back to Kyoto Station

Kyoto Station - home of shopping, restaurant, small park

A small resting place on top of Kyoto Station

A cafe at a mall inside station - It was a long queue

Gion - A must go when you are in Kyoto, recommended to go there at night when you can see the street light, restaurants are more alive at night, and if you are lucky, you can spot a Geisha or Maiko (Geisha's apprecentice). I only went to hanamikoji street, but there's also an area called shirakawa that has small river banks for nice night view photo.
